REQUIREMENT FOR REGISTRATION OF FOREIGN TRAINED NURSES WHO REGISTERED IN THEIR COUNTRIES OF TRAINING

It is mandatory that graduates of foreign nursing schools register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) and obtain licence to practice prior to their professional practice in Nigeria. This process may take minimum of six (6) months and maximum of eighteen (18) months. The registration and licencing process can be facilitated by taking the following steps:

  1. Pay a non – refundable application/examination fee of N45, 500 into the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria through REMITA in any bank.
  2. Complete registration/licencing application forms with five (5) coloured passport photographs on a white background.
  3. Complete verification of registration/licensure form and send to Foreign Nursing Registration Board/Authority who will in turn send it directly to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. Please collect the form from the Registration Unit of the Council. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that verification forms are completed and returned in good time to the Council.
  4. Also request your Foreign Nursing Registration Board/Authority to send a letter of good standing directly to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
  5. Request foreign institution(s) to send official Academic Transcripts of all nursing courses directly to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. It is the applicant responsibility to arrange and pay all necessary transcript fees as may be required by the Foreign University/College.
  6. Request the Federal Ministry of Education in Nigeria to authenticate the Institution(s) which you attended and certificate(s).
  7. The programme must not be an online programme.
  8. Sit a pre-registration Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria’s Examination. Date and time of the examination will be communicated to applicant in due course. Only successful applicants will proceed to the next steps.
  9. Undergo a minimum of three (3) months orientation programme in an approved Institution.
  10. Payment of current registration/licencing fees if end of orientation report is satisfactory.
  11. Registration and issuance of notification of registration/licence.
  12. Every applicant must possess a minimum of five (5) credits in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics in not more than two (2) sittings in WACE/SSCE, GCE or NECO.

REQUIREMENTS FOR REGISTRATION OF FOREIGN TRAINED NURSES FROM SUDAN, REPUBLIC OF NIGER, REPUBLIC OF BENIN AND OTHER FRANCOPHONE COUNTRIES

It is mandatory that graduates of Foreign Nursing schools register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and obtain licence to practice prior to their professional practice in Nigeria. The registration and licencing process can be facilitated by taking the following steps:

  1. Payment of non – refundable application fee of N45, 500 into the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria account through REMITA in any bank (please obtain bank teller and electronic payment receipt).
  2. Request the Federal Ministry of Education and National Universities Commission to authenticate the institution(s) attended and certificate(s).
  3. Request the foreign institution(s) attended to send academic transcripts of all Nursing courses directly to the Registrar, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. It is the responsibility of the applicant to arrange and pay all necessary transcript fees as may be required by the Foreign Institution.
  4. Applicant must possess a minimum of five (5) credits in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics in not more than two (2) sittings in WACE/SSCE or GCE or NECO.
  5. Applicants who are citizens of Republic of Benin, Niger and other francophone countries should provide clearance from Immigration, Nigerian Police and Directorate of State Security Services.
  6. Applicants are to present evidence of residence permit for the period of study in the country of training.
  7. Letter of identification from the school indicating the duration of training
  8. Evidence of stamped international passport for exit and entry into the country for the duration of training
  9. The programme must not be an online or part time programme
  10. Applicants who are citizens of francophone countries must present evidence of English language proficiency.
  11. Applicants must obtain Indexing Number from the Council before the commencement of the programme.
  12. Applicants must undergo 18 months training in an approved School of Nursing in Nigeria, and must sit for the Council’s Professional Examinations.
  13. Payment of current registration and licencing fees if applicant is successful in the Council’s Professional Examination.

RE - ISSUANCE OF LOST NOTIFICATION OF REGISTRATION

  1. Hand Written Application.
  2. Letter of Identification from Training School in the School's Letter Headed Paper, stamped and signed by the Principal.
  3. Letter of Identification from the Nursing Officer in Charge of the Hospital/Health Centre/Clinic where applicant is presently employed (for Nurses trained outside Nigeria).
  4. Original Sworn Court Affidavit.
  5. Original Police Report.
  6. Photocopy of the Lost Notification letter.
  7. Original teller of non refundable payment of Eight Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty Naira (N8,750) only into Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
  8. Two recent identical coloured Passport sized Photographs.

Note: There is no guarantee that document will be re-issued on supply of above listed items. The Council shall assess the situation and use her discretion to re-issue notification where need be.
